There’s enough to worry about on competition day, your gear shouldn’t be one of them. Use this checklist to make sure your dancer is "Side-Stage Ready" before you leave the house.
1. The "Poodle Sock" Check
-
The Brightness Test: Are your socks still "Championship White"? If they’re looking a bit grey or dull, a fresh pair can instantly brighten up the look on stage.
-
The Grip: Check the elastic at the top. If they’re sliding down during practice, they’ll definitely slide during a heavy round.
-
Pro-Tip: Always keep a backup pair in your dance bag. Between grass stains and mud at outdoor venues, a spare pair is a lifesaver.
2. Laces & Buckles
-
The "Snap" Check: Look for fraying on your heavy shoe laces. Laces almost always snap at the most inconvenient moment!
-
Length Matters: Ensure your laces are long enough for a secure double-knot but not so long that they trip the dancer.
-
Buckle Security: If you use buckles, check that the elastic or leather loops are secure. A flying buckle is a safety hazard!
3. Shoe Accessories
-
Tape & Glue: Do you have your sock tape or "sock glue" ready? Make sure the bottle hasn't dried up since the last feis.
-
Heel & Toe: Check the tips and heels of your heavy shoes. If they are loose, a quick fix now prevents a trip later.
4. The "Emergency" Kit
Every Jemriva Designs dancer should have these "just in case" items in their bag:
-
Spare laces (Black for heavy shoes, white for reels).
-
A small bag of replacement Crystal Parade Sew-On Crystals.
-
Sock tape.
-
Spare bobby & wig pins and hair ties.
