At Jemriva Designs, we know that an Irish Solo dress, suit or even a blinged black out is more than just a costume, it’s an investment. Whether you are prepping for your first local feis or heading to the Oireachtas, keeping your crystals secure and brilliant is key to performing with confidence.
1. The "Shake & Lift" Test
Don’t wait for the stage to find out your stones are loose! We recommend doing this check a week before every competition:
-
The Shake: Lay your dress on a flat, clean surface (like a white bedsheet). Gently shake the skirt and bodice.
-
The Lift: Work your way around the designs, gently trying to lift the edges of the stones with a fingernail or a pick tool.
-
Why? Often, stones are loose but still "clinging" to the fabric. It’s much easier to re-glue them now than to hunt for them on the side of the stage!
2. Check the "High-Friction" Zones
Certain areas of a dress take more of a beating than others. Pay extra attention to:
-
The Hips: Where your arms brush against the skirt during rounds.
-
The Cuffs: Constant contact with the bodice can knock stones loose.
-
The Collar: Makeup, tan, and hairspray can settle here and weaken the glue over time.
3. The "Gap Analysis" (Refresh vs. Overhaul)
How many crystals do you actually need?
-
Spot Repairs (1–2 dozen): Perfect for minor touch-ups after a weekend of dancing.
-
Seasonal Refresh (50–100): Ideal if your dress has been through a full season and has some "dark spots" where glue remains but the stone is gone.
-
Total Overhaul (200+): If you are changing a color scheme or adding extra "pop" to the shoulders and cape for a major championship.
4. Cleaning & Storage
-
Avoid Hairspray: Try to cover your stonework when applying hairspray, as the chemicals can dull the brilliant glass shine of your Crystal Parade stones.
-
Keep it Cool: Never leave your dress in a hot car! Extreme heat can soften the glue, causing stones to slide or fall off.
-
Breathable Storage: Always store your dress in a breathable garment bag to prevent moisture buildup.
